Health Coaching

The Take Charge| Live Well program offers access to unlimited phone coaching at no cost to you.

For members enrolled in the Ohio Med PPO: Prescriptions and most over-the-counter products are available to you at no additional cost if you are actively working with a Virgin Pulse health coach.

For members enrolled in the Ohio Med HDHP: Prescriptions and most over-the-counter products are not available to you at the $0 copay until your out of pocket maximum has been reached. However, as an enrolled member in the State of Ohio medical plan, coaching is available to you at no additional cost.

If you decide not to work with a health coach, these tobacco cessation products will be available to you at the normal copay amount.

To talk with a health coach, you can schedule an appointment online at join.virginpulse.com/stateofohio.

If you are prescribed Chantix, then you, your pharmacist or your prescriber can initiate and request a Prior Authorization by calling OptumRx at 866-854-8850. OptumRx will contact your prescriber and request the information necessary for the medication to be covered. If your Prior Authorization request is not approved, your medication will not qualify for coverage through your prescription benefit program and you will be responsible for the full cost of this medication at the pharmacy.

NRT is covered at 100 percent with a prescription from your doctor and includes coverage for gum, patches, lozenges, and prescription medications. However, there are some limitations – contact OptumRx at 1-866-854- 8850 for further information.

About quitting tobacco

Cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S., yet each day more than 3,200 people under the age of 18 smoke their first cigarette. About 70 percent of smokers want to quit. When you use coaching and nicotine replacement therapy, your chances are double what they would be without assistance. Without assistance, only about 5 percent remain tobacco free for 3-12 months.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends some key components for a successful tobacco cessation program. These components include:

  • Provide for at least four counseling sessions.
  • Coverage of Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved prescriptions and over-the-counter products.
  • Coverage of two quit attempts per year.
