Pharmacy Benefits
Pharmacy benefits, available to all employees enrolled in a state health plan, are provided through
Catalyst Rx, the state's pharmacy benefit manager. Employees who are enrolled in any of the health plans are automatically enrolled in pharmacy benefits through Catalyst Rx.
Employees* have two options for filling their prescriptions:
1. Employees can take their prescription to a pharmacy within the Catalyst Rx network, or
2. Employees can receive prescriptions by mail through the Walgreens Mail Order Service.
*NOTE: Employees enrolled in Ohio Med are required to use mandatory mail order after one fill and one refill of their prescription.
*Pharmacy information on this page, including copays, is effective July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. For 2008-2009 information, click here.
Comparing The Costs of Prescription Medications
Want to save some money? Visit the Catalyst Rx Web site and compare the costs of different medications. All you have to do is pick a medication and it will give you the cost comparisons to other equivalent medications.
An easy way to save money is to utilize generic medications rather than brand-name medications. See the chart below to compare the copays for the various levels of drugs, and visit the Catalyst Rx Web site to determine which level a specific medication falls under. While comparing costs of medications, you also can learn more about each specific medication.

Coverage
Employees who are enrolled in any of the state health plans are automatically enrolled for pharmacy benefits through Catalyst Rx. Employees receive a Catalyst Rx identification card, which must be presented at the pharmacy when filling prescriptions. Since pharmacy benefits are provided through Catalyst Rx, regardless of which health plan you are enrolled in, you must use your Catalyst Rx card to receive prescriptions - you will not be able to purchase medications with your health plan ID card.
