Enrolling for Health Care Benefits

In general, unless otherwise stated, changes are not permitted to your health care benefits.

Health care coverage begins on the first day of the month following the month in which you are hired or otherwise become eligible. A completed Enrollment Form must be submitted to your agency within 31 days of the date of hire or otherwise becoming eligible for coverage.

Enrolling When You First Become Eligible
You need to enroll by submitting a completed Enrollment Form for health care coverage to your agency within 31 days of your date of hire or your change to permanent status. If you do not enroll within this time frame, you must wait until the next open enrollment period.

Coverage begins on the first day of the month following the month in which you become eligible and submit a completed Enrollment Form, except for changes made during open enrollment which become effective on the first day of the next benefit period, typically July 1st.

Enrolling During Open Enrollment
You may enroll, add or drop dependents or change your current elections during open enrollment. Open enrollment occurs at least every two years and is usually held in the spring. Coverage becomes effective on the first day of the next benefit period (typically July 1).
