Unemployment Benefits

Eligibility
 
Eligibility for unemployment compensation requires the following:

  • A base period of at least 20 qualifying weeks before becoming unemployed.

  • An average weekly wage of at least $193 during your base period.

  • A determination by law that your unemployment is involuntary and has not resulted from gross misconduct of neglect.

  • You must be able to work, available to work, and actively seeking work, but unable to obtain suitable work. "Suitable work" is defined by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS), Unemployment Compensation Section.

Filing for Unemployment Compensation

You must fill out an Application for Unemployment Compensation benefits in order to be considered for compensation. Former (or reduced hour) employees may apply for benefits by calling the toll free number (877) 644-6562 to apply. Call centers accept calls Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. except holidays. Your application may also be filed via the Internet at www.unemployment.ohio.gov.
