Filing Deadlines
The following deadlines apply to most state employees filing for
disability leave benefits. Members of some unions have different
deadlines. Please check your union
contract to confirm your filing deadlines.
- The initial claim must be filed within 20 calendar days of the
last day worked.
- Extensions and additional information must be filed either within
20 days of being notified of a decision on your claim, or within
the 20 days following the ending date of benefits, whichever is
later.
- Appeals must be filed within 30 days of either the notification
on your claim or the end of benefits, whichever is later. This
deadline to filing an appeal is true for all state employees.
See the section on appeals for
more information.
If you are unable to meet the deadlines because of special circumstances,
file an explanation of the special circumstances along with your
application, extension or appeal. If your circumstances are valid,
they may be accepted as an extension to the time limit for filing
your application, extension or appeal.
