--IGD Statewide IT Policy, August 2005
The
Ohio Office of Information Technology
recently issued the following three new state IT policies following a
collaborative development and an open comment period:
Portable Computing Security (ITP-B.9) -- addresses
the security of portable computing devices and includes provisions for
their use, management and control. The policy includes the security of the
physical device itself as well as its applications and data. The policy
also addresses the use of privately owned devices by employees and contractors.
Disposal, Servicing and Transfer of IT Equipment (ITP-E.1) --
prescribes requirements to mitigate risks associated with the
disposal, servicing and transfer of IT equipment.
Registration of Internet Domain Names (ITP-F.1) -- includes provisions for
a common, consistent statewide approach to Web site domain names.
The policy includes provisions for obtaining and safeguarding Internet
domain names by establishing naming requirements and a central
registration and tracking process. Requirements of the U.S.
General Services Administration concerning the
use of the .gov domain also are covered.
