State Printing, Mail Services merger
streamlines print-to-post operation
--GSD Office of State Printing and Mail Services, December 2004
To better meet
the print-to-post needs of customers, the DAS General Services Division
has merged the offices of State
Printing and State Mail Services.
The new alignment aids State Printing's continuing expansion into
fulfillment services. State Printing can print variable data such
as addresses on letters and envelopes; collate the documents; fold
them; insert them into envelopes; and, for those agencies who have
an account with Mail Services, forward the envelopes directly for
metering and mailing.
To order some or all of the above services, note which fulfillment
services are requested on the "additional specifications" section
of the printing
order form.
State Printing's expansion into fulfillment services is part of
the industry trend.
"Publishing is not all-inclusive of what we do. We want to
provide our customers a total document solution -- from print to
mail, " said Joe Tucker, administrator of the Office of State
Printing and Mail Services.
Tucker is serving his second term as president of the
National State Publishing Association, an organization whose
membership primarily consists of printing administrators for state
governments and state colleges and universities.
Tucker is leading the effort to update the focus of the association
to better match the evolving industry.
"We are moving away from just being printers," Tucker said.
