New training catalog posted to Web

The 2006-07 edition of the training catalog for state employees is available online at http://www.das.ohio.gov/TrainingCatalog.

Blueprint for LifeLong Learning: A Guide for Your Continuous Improvement and Professional Development lists nearly 100 courses available to public employees, including several new opportunities.

The catalog includes quality training programs created through partnerships with nationally known professional development organizations as well as Ohio universities, colleges and vocational schools.

Seventy of the courses are one- or two-day courses that teach computer and other job skills, including 17 new courses on topics such as Publisher, HTML, PC Maintenance and Troubleshooting, and Coaching: The New Management Style.

The catalog also includes information about the following professional, administrative and leadership programs: Human Resources Academy; Is Supervising for Me?; Ohio Certified Public Manager Program; Peer Today, Boss Tomorrow; People Matter Series; Professional Administrative Support Services (PASS); and Project Management.

Several of the above programs are new or have been expanded.

Peer Today, Boss Tomorrow is a new course designed to help participants transition from co-worker to supervisor.

The People Matter Series is a new program aimed to maximize employee potential. The courses include Effective Communication, Developing People, Career Planning and Management, Taking Charge of Change, Change Management, Building Commitment and Elements of Leadership.

Project Management II has been added this year and is certified by the Project Management Institute.

The curriculum for the Human Resources Academy has been expanded to include more classes for the human resources professional.

Customized training to meet specific agency requirements for staff development also is available.

Funding sources for eligible employees include the Exempt Professional Development Program for exempt employees, Union Education Trust for Ohio Civil Service Employees Association/AFSCME Local 11 bargaining unit members, and funding programs for bargaining unit members of Service Employees International Union/District 1199, Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Education Association and Ohio State Troopers Association.
