State to host surplus auction Jan. 21
-- GSD State and Federal Surplus, January 2006

State and Federal Surplus will host a miscellaneous property auction at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at 4200 Surface Road, Columbus.

The starting time for miscellaneous property auctions has been moved from 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. Doors will still open at 8 a.m.

The hundreds of items for sale include office and commercial kitchen equipment and many other items, such as first-aid stations, Palm Pilots and digital cameras. To view some of the items, please click here.

All participants are required to register on the day of the auction. Payment must be made in full on the day of the sale by cash or credit card.

Surplus property auctions provide the general public an opportunity to purchase quality goods at reduced prices and enable the state to recoup a portion of its initial investment. Auctions have generated nearly $1.9 million to date during fiscal year 2006.

Public auctions are the last step in the state's surplus program. State agencies declare property as surplus because it is damaged or at the end of its life cycle for government use. The property is then made available to other state agencies, state higher education facilities, tax-supported agencies, municipal corporations and other political subdivisions of the state, including public schools. Remaining property is sold at the public auctions. Merchandise also is collected by the Transportation Security Administration from airline passengers.
