MLK Oratorical Contest Slated
Friday, April 20

WHAT: Oratorical contest where students compete for an opportunity to deliver their speech at the 2008 Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration.
WHO: Students throughout Ohio in Grades K-12
WHEN: Friday, April 20, 2007 -- 10 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: King Arts Complex, 867 Mt. Vernon Ave., Columbus
DETAILS: Contestants from three regional contests held in Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo compete for the opportunity to deliver their original speech about the legacy of Dr. King. This year’s theme is "Carrying the Torch: Dedicating My Life to the Dream."

The first-place winner from five age divisions will present their speech at the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration on Jan. 17 in Columbus. The contest and the commemorative celebration are sponsored by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission. The Ohio Department of Administrative Services provides administrative support for the commission.
