Eligibility
Any bargaining unit or exempt employee is eligible to attend this one-day program. The program is targeted to employees interested in pursuing a supervisory level position managing employees. This course is not targeted for current supervisors. This program is offered at no cost to all eligible employees.
Program Components
Is Supervising for Me?” provides a general overview of the principles of supervision. This one-day program consists of four modules covering the key essentials of supervision and provides attendees with a general understanding of the skills needed to be a successful supervisor. Modules cover:
- Know Thy Self: Recognizing your temperament and behavioral type
- The Value of Employee Development: Strategies for employee feedback through the review process including coaching and counseling techniques
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Competencies and accountability for supervisors
- Leadership: Understanding your leadership style and leadership competencies
Program Outcomes
- Improved understanding about the competencies needed to be an effective supervisor.
- Increased understanding of own temperament and the challenges associated with different temperaments in a team environment.
- Strategies to lead effective employee development meetings.
- Coaching and counseling techniques.
Location
Most courses will be held in Columbus at the Vern Riffe Center, 77 S. High St., 31st floor. Check the online registration system for confirmed locations.
Dates and Course Times
Typically, classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
