Welcome to Project Management - Level 1

What You Need to Know Before Enrolling

The essentials: Project Management Level 1 is a rigorous 14-week program held once per week. The focus of this program is to learn the core knowledge, skills, and abilities crucial to competent project and team management.  The program is based upon the universal and internationally recognized project concepts of the Project Management Institute (PMI).  The program combines both classroom and project team outcomes in the form of a program-end deliverable.  This program provides PDU’s in compliance with the PMI-Registered Educational Provider (REP) requirements.

Weekly supervisory support is essential to the success of the project!

Week 2 classes both Tuesday and Wednesday February 10th and 11th.

Registration Ends December 1st 2008.

Time Classes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

  • Attendance is required for all 14-sessions of this program.  Please verify that your schedule allows you to attend every date listed.

  • When your application has been accepted, you will receive a confirmation notice from the DAS Office of Training & Development.

  • You must demonstrate that you have received management approval to attend this class.

What is Project Management - Level 1?

In this program, you will learn and apply skills critical to effective project management, leadership and other core management competencies. Including technical terminology and processes of the first five knowledge areas of the "Project Management Body of Knowledge" (PMBOK) for your own potential PMP examination process. 

The PMI-PMBOK manual, a project planner, the Gregg Reference Manual and many other learning tools are provided at no cost to each participant.

A Pre and Post ACT WorkKeys Writing, Listening and Team Building assessment is conducted.
• Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment is conducted
• DISC Time Management assessment is conducted
• Associate Practices Survey –confidential peer group feedback- is conducted
• Knowledge area quizzes are conducted on those class dates


Project Management – Level 1Curriculum

Course 1

 

 

Orientation & Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) : This course will cover the program and project parameters, establish team configurations, introduce team and team member expectations, and cover the basic requirements of the 14-weeks. The day will end with a presentation of assessment results and an orientation to understanding MBTI types.

Course 2

2 - Days

Project Management Made Easy: Integration, Strategies, & Tools for Success!
Learning a variety of additional skills, knowledge and tools are just a part of this program. This course will focus on learning a variety of additional skills, knowledge and tools are just a part of this program. This course will focus on the importance of the PMBOK concepts of integrations, scope management and scope planning. Participants will begin to practice skills through the application of the project processes of initiating, planning and executing.

Course 3

Time Management & Team Day: This program will combine several elements: basic use of time management planner, general time management skill building, and the PMBOK concepts of time management in regards to project processes. Participants will learn how their individual behaviors and agendas influence and impact the time and team management processes. Additionally participants will learn BASICS of MS Project to create a simple team Gantt Chart and how to create and use a work breakdown structures as it relates to projects.

Course 5

Human Resources Management: Participants will learn how individual behaviors and agendas influence the team process and how to build and manage successful team - all relating through the concepts of PMBOK. Participants learn about team organization and the management skills necessary to function as an effective project team.

Course 6

Managing Change (one-half day) This course will help the participant acquire the necessary concepts, skills, and techniques to prepare for the initiation of change. By learning the three dimensions of managing change and tools to execute change with ease, the participant will apply the human dynamics concepts of change and understand how it impacts individual and group behaviors. Included in this course is how MBTI affects changes and what strategies have the most impact.

Effective Communications For Management (one-half day)
Using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as a baseline, and other interpersonal communication assessment information, the objective of this course is to understand communication processes effecting the disposition of project information. This will include communications planning and distribution, performance reporting and how to create a plan for meeting communications needs. Additionally, verbal and non-verbal communication skills and the development of effective listening strategies are discussed and practiced. Effectively communicating project statuses and forecasts are also covered in this course.

Course 7

MS PowerPoint and Team Day: Learn the basics in this two-hour session on one of the most powerful presentations software available. A PowerPoint presentation is a requirement for each project-end presentation.

Course 8

General Report Writing and Team Day: The session will focus writing skills and techniques necessary to complete a useable and well-written project-end report.

Course 9 - 13

Project Team Days (five weeks)
All project team days will begin with an activity designed to teach a new skill that applies to the program and back on-the-job. PM1 requires teams create a product and project report, and complete a team presentation based upon the project assignment. Team days are designed to make every participant master the skills taught in the program through hands-on assignments.
