Mission Statement
The State Architect’s Office mission is to effectively and efficiently lead capital planning, design and construction of public facilities through quality service, expertise and knowledge sharing.
Our Services...
The State Architect's Office (SAO) establishes the procedures and policies for the effective management of virtually all state-funded capital project design and construction except K-12 schools. Additionally, SAO manages projects for any state agency, institution, board, or commission that requests it. In FY2005-2006, SAO serviced 30 agencies with 221 projects having a combined value of $997 million. It accomplished that work through 349 construction contracts and 261 professional services agreements and consulting contracts.
The office has two other service units. SAO Interior Design Services (SAO-IDS) supports all state agencies with cost-effective space planning and the design of their interior environments. SAO-IDS ensures that interior space plans comply with various code and life-safety requirements. It also provides design information of many types, product and materials research, reference resources, and project profile assistance for all clients. In FY 2005-2006, it produced 232 projects for well over 30 agencies.
The third major component is SAO Energy Services (SAO-ES). This section provides state clients with certain energy engineering design as well as energy auditing and contracting opportunities for the cost-effective, efficient use of energy resources for state government facilities and operations.
SAO-ES administers a grant-funding program for energy-related conservation initiatives on applicant projects. The award-winning unit has earned national recognition for its pollution reduction and energy savings programs. In FY2005-2006, it was involved in 6 capital projects, 19 performance projects, and usage compliance reviews of 104 projects. Each year, the state realizes guaranteed cost savings of $1.8 million due to this successful energy conservation program.
