Recruitment

The Safety and Security Services Section periodically has openings for Radio Operators, Security Officers and Supervisors.

Radio Operator

Radio Operators work out of the Sections' Command Center located in Columbus, Ohio.  They monitor alarms and cameras for state owned and leased facilities located throughout central Ohio. They also monitor radio traffic and dispatch security officers as needed.

Security Officer 1

The Building Officer provides security in state owned or leased facilities.  They control entry to their facility, assist visitors and employees, conduct safety tours, and respond to any emergency situation.

The Roaming Officer, working out of a marked cruiser, inspects state owned or leased properties.  Our Officers follow varied schedules and routes; cruisers are clearly marked and highly visible in order to discourage theft and vandalism.

Security Officer 2

The Security Officer 2 performs all the duties of a Security Officer 1, plus acts as a lead worker in state owned or leased facilities

Intermittent Security Officers

Intermittent Officers provide the same services as Security Officers but are hired to fill temporary positions. They are limited to working a maximum of 1,000 hours during a rolling 12-month period. Intermittent Officers may be utilized on an on call basis to substitute for full time permanent employees on unscheduled temporary leaves, short term disability or to fill other short term requirements. This position may offer the opportunity for full time permanent employment based on the performance of the Intermittent Officer and organizational needs.

Security Supervisor 1

The Security Supervisor, under direct supervision of the Safety and Security Manager, is responsible for supervising all security staff in state owned or leased facilities.
