The Ohio portion of the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) Re-observation Program, which took place at the end of fiscal year 2003, had the highest local participation in the nation, according to the NGS. The re-observation program is a national effort to readjust geodetic survey control points of the National Spatial Reference System. OGRIP held numerous workshops throughout the state to raise awareness of this effort and to garner the support of local governments. OGRIP also provided a centralized contracting mechanism to achieve an economy of scale for local governments to procure surveying services in support of this re-observation. As a result of the efforts of NGS, the Ohio Department of Transportation and OGRIP, a total of 200 geodetic survey points across Ohio will be used in the upcoming NGS adjustment to the National Spatial Reference System. |
