The Ohio
Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP) recently presented
its 2003 Best Practices Awards
to Fairfield County, Logan County, the city of Lebanon Ohio and the Ohio
Historical Society. This award recognizes the effective use of Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) technology. GIS is a computer system to map
and analyze geographically referenced data. The Ohio Historical Society was cited for a mapping and technology program that answers questions frequently asked about preservation projects. Fairfield County's GIS program enables the county auditor and engineer offices to share data. Logan County uses GIS technology to map the location of 911 calls. Lebanon has created a comprehensive program to distribute GIS data throughout a large number of city departments, including water treatment, zoning and law enforcement. OGRIP consists of
volunteers who share a common interest in the development and use of GIS
throughout Ohio. DAS provides administrative support to the OGRIP council
and is among the state and local agencies serving on the council. |
