Approximately 85 state agency human resources officials attended the latest HR Roundtable held Feb. 28 to discuss industry trends and recommend changes in state HR policy.
Topics included status reports on the state budget and military leave policies, Civil Service Reform legislation, importance of training and the development of competencies to support HR needs.
The roundtable, which
was sponsored by the DAS
Human Resources Division, also featured the "Foundation for
Supervisory Success," a DAS partnership with the John
Glenn Institute at Ohio State University. The program will standardize
supervisory
training for newly hired and/or promoted supervisors in state agencies with
less than 18 months supervisory experience in the state government system.
The elimination of empty job classifications also was discussed. More than 700 empty classifications will be deleted pending agency review beginning in April. Classifications with four or fewer incumbents also will be reviewed for possible consolidation and deletion. Elected officials were invited to join the initiative, and also review their empty classifications.
The HR Roundtable also covered plans for a pre-tax employee parking program paid for via payroll deductions.
The Roundtable meets quarterly
and has generated most of the reforms the Civil Service Review Commission
is currently asking the General Assembly to approve.
