State Architect Roger B. Booker, AIA, recently was elected vice chairman of the Capital Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB).
Booker began his service on the board shortly after becoming state architect in 2000.
CSRAB oversees the activities, budget and policies relative to the Ohio Statehouse, the adjacent Senate Building, and the parking garage and grounds. A primary responsibility is to maintain the historic character of the Statehouse and Capitol Square while providing for the health, safety and convenience of those who work in or visit the complex.
In addition, CSRAB provides educational, maintenance, support and security services for Capitol Square structures and grounds. The board oversees the Statehouse Museum Shop and the operations of the Capitol Cafe. It also grants permits for public activities occurring on the Statehouse grounds. In a cooperative effort between CSRAB and the Ohio Historical Society, the Education & Visitors Center coordinates tours of Capitol Square and provides information about the buildings, their history and Ohio government.
The officers, elected annually to serve for a year, were chosen when the board met May 19. In addition to Booker's election, Richard H. Finan, former Ohio Senate president, was re-elected chairman and former Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives Jo Ann Davidson was re-elected secretary.
They are among an 11-member
board which also includes two members each from the Ohio House of Representatives
and Ohio Senate. The remainder of the board is made up of one representative
each from the Ohio Arts Council, the Ohio Building Authority, the Ohio Historical
Society and the general public.
