Fire Marshal's bid program
earns national award

--GSD Office of State Purchasing, July 2003

The State Fire Marshal shared the credit with the Office of State Purchasing for helping them win a national award recently.

The State Bid Program for the Ohio Fire Service won the Award of Merit in the 2001 Award For Excellence competition sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs. The awards were presented in New Orleans in September 2001.

State Purchasing, in cooperation with the State Fire Marshal, developed a contract that allows small government bodies to purchase a standardized fire truck at a reasonable price through the Cooperative Purchasing Program. These government entities are able to purchase new trucks, including options that their fire departments may need, with financial assistance from the State Fire Marshal. By combining the power of volume purchasing with grants from the State Fire Marshal, local governments can more easily afford necessary equipment to protect and assist Ohio residents.
