EEO Retreat to focus on
equity practices

"Best Practices for Implementing Equity in the 21st Century" is the theme of the Third Annual EEO Officers Retreat, which will be held May 19 and 20 at the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, 1111 E. Broad St., Columbus.

The 13 lecturers include Samuel Gresham, Jr., president and chief executive officer of the Columbus Urban League; Michael Payton, executive director of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission; and Ohio Department of Health's Cassandra Chronos and Ken Kirksey.

Gresham will discuss race-based issues. Payton will explain the difference among affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity laws. Chronos, a registered nurse, and Kirksey, assistant director of the Ohio Employee Assistance Program, will address transgender issues in the workplace.

The target audience of the retreat, which is sponsored by DAS, includes State of Ohio agency EEO officers and ADA coordinators as well as human resources and labor officers. Due to limited seating, conference attendance will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
