The 11 team members were among 34 state employees recognized by Governor Bob Taft on July 2 for their outstanding performance in assisting their department in serving the needs of Ohioans. Those honored were the Governor's Statewide Employees or Teams of the Month for January through April. The DAS team was the March honoree.
After being selected by their respective state agencies as employees of the month, agency winners advanced to the statewide competition and were selected because they demonstrated initiative, commitment, skill and creativity in their achievements.
The honor was the second recent award for the ASAP program, which was created by a multi-division DAS team. The program received an Award of Excellence on April 30 at the 2003 Prism Award ceremony sponsored by the central Ohio chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
The program was honored in the multi-faceted campaigns division under the category of internal communications for non-profit organizations. A multifaceted campaign incorporates a number of communications strategies, tactics and resources to reach its intended audience.
ASAP includes a comprehensive binder detailing procedures and responsibilities. The ASAP team engaged the assistance of Cal Hamrick, communications marketing manager, whose design efforts ensured that a professional and consistent look was applied to the ASAP-related pieces. The ASAP awareness/marketing campaign included wallet-size cards containing DAS emergency response information, e-mail messages, a Web site and the "Homeland Security Starts With You!" poster. The poster was adopted by the State of Ohio Security Taskforce for distribution to all state agencies.
Many agencies have adopted
parts or all of the ASAP program, including the binder's contents and the
process the team developed to roll out the program and train fellow employees.

This portion of the DAS eNewsCenter is for DAS employees.
