
PURPOSE: Project Management Training is designed for State employees who need a practical and applied approach to learning the foundations of managing projects, with the main purpose of applying the acquired knowledge to projects currently managed, or soon to be managed. The Project Management processes, tools, skills, and additional information provided in this program will assist you in your everyday responsibilities as a project manager.
PROCESS: Upon approval of your application, you will join with a group of peers and begin applying what you learn immediately in this learning group (cohort) and at work. You will have interactive participation in group discussions of the key elements and processes that will assist you in the successful management of projects within your respective agencies. In addition, you will be provided with the project management standards contained in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), provided by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Participants will be required to dedicate over one hundred hours in a classroom or lab setting, with additional reading, homework, and the completion of an individual and a group project. Participants will apply skills taught in class, including doing research, practice activities, documentation, and applying effective communication skills within a team environment, as you work towards the completion of a high-paced project.
PAY-OFF: Upon successful completion of the Project Management learning program, you will have the expertise and competencies needed to maximize your performance as a project manager. Specifically, you will apply the knowledge and skills found in the competency model below. In addition, it will provide a solid foundation for candidates interested in pursuing further studies in preparation for taking the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam, offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Who Should Attend
- Eligible candidates for the Project Management (PM) program should be currently managing, coordinating, or will soon be participating as a project manager as part of their primary job requirement.
- Participation is voluntary, dependent on approval by the candidate's State Agency and supervisor.
- Candidates for the PM program must commit to completing the entire program.
- Candidates for the PM program must complete the required application and receive the endorsements of her/his immediate supervisor or division/office chief and agency director or designee.
How to Apply
Submit an Office of Learning and Professional Development application. First, you will receive a notice of receipt and then second, a notice of placement in the course.
