The State Architect's Office is responsible for providing Certification Training to university personnel at institutions that have received certification to locally administer all capital improvement projects within their campuses. This annual two-day training event occurs each January.
Throughout the year, SAO hosts various Knowledge Exchanges with our client groups of agencies, colleges and universities to share best practices and communicate updates to standard contracting requirements.
SAO also conducts or attends a variety of small events, trade shows and professional organization meetings as part of our outreach plan to educate organizations on ways to obtain information about state government business opportunities. In addition, we provide regular internal training opportunities for our staff and agencies/institutions to ensure we are keeping up-to-date on various trends and patterns within the design and construction industry.
SAO College
Sponsored by the State Architect's Office, SAO College educates interested parties on the proper design management and construction management of state projects.
SAO College is typically a one-day event and is held in three cities in Ohio. It is attended annually by approximately 300-400 participants and guest speakers, including architects, engineers, contractors, construction managers and state agency and college/university representatives throughout the State of Ohio. Past topics of discussion have included Ohio Construction Reform, energy rules, partnering, paperless project management (OAKS Capital Improvements), what's new in state contracts and tips for completing the Statement of Qualifications (SAO Form F110-330).
Continuing Education
Program Services staff members register all applicable events for continuing education credits with various professional organizations, such as the American Institute of Architects and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
SAO is also a Construction Education Network (CEN) provider through CSI. The program is a network of registered education providers offering high-quality education programs to professionals in the architecture-, engineering- and construction-related industries. All educational programs offered through SAO are registered with CEN.
SAO Training & Outreach Calendar
SAO Program Services maintains an online calendar which includes training opportunities for SAO staff as well as staff from other agencies and institutions of higher education. SAO outreach activities for trade shows, conferences and other events are added to this calendar as they are scheduled.
