FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, September 04, 2002 STATE ONLINE PROGRAMS AMONG NATION’S BEST (Columbus)-- The State of Ohio is listed among the nation’s best according to CIO Magazine when it comes to developing new applications for the Internet. State online programs are among those cited in the 15th Annual CIO-100 Awards, a designation given to public and private entities using integrated systems to achieve positive business solutions. “I’m proud to know that our state is getting the recognition it deserves for offering an increasing number of government services online,” said Governor Bob Taft. “This award shows we’re not only solving immediate problems, but looking to the future as well in finding new methods of combining our programs to serve our citizens as efficiently as possible.” Greg Jackson, DAS assistant director/Ohio chief information officer, recently accepted the award on behalf of Ohio at a ceremony in Colorado Springs, Colorado. “This award is given to organizations in the public and private sector that treat integration of online services as a necessity, not an option. Our goal is a seamless transition whenever possible, so people won’t have to jump from one Web site to the next to find the help they need. It’s the same as offering customers one-stop shopping to save them the trouble of going from store to store.” The CIO-100 awards singled out the state’s main Web portal (www.ohio.gov) and Ohio Business Gateway as two examples of innovative integration. The portal provides access to a host of state programs. Gateway allows small business owners to file taxes and other reports with multiple state agencies online. A team of CIO editors and writers selected the 100 honorees from organizations applying online. The magazine said honorees are not ranked due to the high caliber of programs involved. Ohio’s online programs were also recently honored in another national survey. The Center for Digital Government, a California based research and advisory group, ranked Ohio fourth in the category of Law Enforcement and the Courts and third in the category of Electronic Government and Business Regulation.
